Assessments

Assessment is a time to engage with parents, the child or teen who has been referred, and at times their siblings. We hope in the first appointment to help your child or teen feel comfortable. We also aim to hear each person’s concerns that have prompted the referral for psychological treatment. Treatment commences at assessment and as part of the assessment we work collaboratively with you to form an understanding of the presenting concerns, develop treatment goals and discuss the treatment options. In instances when parents are living in separate households, it remains important and helpful to hear each parent’s perspective. We would in those instances provide each parent with a separate assessment appointment with the child or teen who has been referred for psychological treatment. The first appointment lasts around 75 minutes. Subsequent appointments are 50 minutes. We do not specialise in assessments for the family court and do not provide legal reports.
